Reflection:This is a paper I wrote to get into a college program. Fashion was a major inspiration and I toke that and created this. I was so inspired that I felt a happy sensation in my heart. This paper means a lot because it is what got me into that summer program Fashion is something that I feel strongly about. It brings light and power to a magazine and inspiration to so many people. It is for this reason that Fashion is something I feel strongly about. The way a designer can put so many vibrant, exotic colors together and turn it into a dress or shoes really intrigues my mind. Being creative has let me keep an open eye when looking at fashion. I see it as an opportunity to express my creativity, in bold and amazing ways. Every aspect of this business brings me happiness. Fashion is true and real, so people appreciate it. My outlook on fashion is, “If you are creative then you have the ability to create a masterpiece”. When I found out about the program at VCU, I was immediately amazed at the courses that were offered. Fashion is important to me, so I feel that this program is quite endearing. I’ve recently expanded my mind beyond the aspect of just the detail and design but also the merchandising portion. Determination is one of the things that this program requires and I feel that I will do that. I am willing to put my whole heart and creative mind into this program. I appreciate not only this program but the school as well. VCU has much to offer and shows structure and hard work. Fashion as truly opened my eyes and with your program I feel that I can express my desire for fashion successfully. Many people have influenced my interest in fashion. Two people, in particular, gave me inspiration to pursue the industry of fashion, Diane Von Furstenberg and Betsey Johnson. Betsey Johnson really showed me a more vibrant, bold side of the industry. Her perspective on fashion is extremely creative and brings joy every time you set eyes upon it. I loved that she wasn’t afraid to express herself in a prominent way. Her style is beyond unique, which makes me inspired. She influenced me to use my creative mind to see fashion in a new and open way. I learned from her that fashion isn’t just about elegance but that it can be bold and out there and because I love it so will many others. Her inspiration pushed me to never doubt my ability to be innovative. Betsey Johnson is eye-catching and animated and I really appreciate the inspiration she has given me. Where Betsey introduced me to electrifying fashion, Diane Von Furstenberg opened my eyes to the elegant and vivid side of this industry. Her work reminded me of the poise Jackie Kennedy. She could bring a dress to life. I was inspired by her elegance and poise, which gave me a boost of confidence. Her style was different but I loved it with all my heart. Elegance, to me, is the origin of fashion. Models have elegance when they’re wearing Diane’s designs. The garments need to feel good on you and bring inspiration when worn. Diane Von Furstenberg has accomplished that. Her style evokes a pride and poise, which has blown me away. She gave me a sense of confidence. In order to get an idea of how fashion really worked, I had to experience it. Learning about the industry was not just about the fashion but also the modeling. At the age of 12, I began to experience it at Evolution Modeling Agency. On the set of a photo shoot, the photographer once turned slightly and asked, “What do you think of this outfit”. My mind was bursting with words I hadn’t even thought of until that moment. I knew, at that very minute, that fashion was waiting. Being able to actually have an opinion, gave me chills. My words could possibly be important and valuable to the industry. In a matter of days, I was looking at every magazine just to critique the clothing. I was pulled in by an amazing world. I believe that this program will show me that I can be able to have a say in fashion and give me the tools to do it well. This program will help me to get a more complete understanding of the fashion industry. Being able, to immerse myself in this school, really makes my future worth waiting for.
